Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP) Update

On March 29, the Indiana Health Coverage Programs (IHCP) released an updated bulletin regarding the launch of Indiana’s new Pre-Admission Screening and Resident Review system (PASRR). The new system is scheduled to go live on July 1, 2016. The latest PASRR Bulletin is available here.

In addition, the Division of Aging has announced that a new Level of Care (LOC) tool will be used. The LOC tools are still under development, but they are likely to be very similar to the long form and short form LOC tools from InterRAI. Long-term care providers will be required to complete full LOC screens when persons convert to Medicaid or a Level-II assessment is required. These must be completed prior to admission to a skilled nursing facility. Therefore, although the terms and language used in the new forms will maintain the same definitions found in the current RAI manual, it will be of great of importance for facilities to develop best practices and a process for the collection of necessary information, and completion of the forms.

IHCA/INCAL will continue to monitor this and provide any updates as they become available.
