We’re excited to share that 384 Indiana skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) are being nationally recognized by the American Health Care Association for the quality of care they provide.
In Indiana, 20 SNFs met all four of the national quality care goals set by AHCA’s Quality Initiative. In addition, 120 SNFs met three of the four national goals.
The four goals of the AHCA’s Quality Initiative are:
- Safely reduce long-stay and short-stay hospitalizations by improving 10 percent—or maintain a rate of 10 percent or less;
- Improve functional outcomes (mobility) by 15 percent;
- Improve long-stay and short-stay satisfaction by 10 percent—or achieve a rate of 90 percent or greater; and
- Safely reduce the off-label use of antipsychotics by 10 percent—or maintain a rate of eight percent or less in long-stay residents and maintain a rate of one percent or less in short-stay patients.
“This achievement represents progress on important quality measures that will positively impact the lives of residents,” said Dr. David Gifford, Senior Vice President of Quality and Regulatory Affairs and Chief Medical Officer for the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living. “We applaud these organizations for their hard work and dedication to this significant quality improvement effort.”

The American Health Care Association is recognizing long-term care providers for their achievements through its Quality Initiative Recognition Program, which honors member facilities for achieving the AHCA Quality Initiative goals. Launched in 2012 by the AHCA, the Quality Initiative serves as a national effort to build upon the existing work of the long-term care profession and further improve quality of care in skilled nursing centers by challenging member facilities to meet measurable goals in areas such as hospital readmissions, off-label use of antipsychotics, and customer satisfaction.
